At just under 2,000 m above sea level, there is a real treasure trove for anglers. From rainbow trout to Arctic char and Canadian lake trout to perch, there is plenty to be caught from the clear waters here. Whether early in the morning on the shore or in a boat on the mirror-smooth surface of Lake Oeschinen, you can really soak up the magical atmosphere of the mountain world while fishing.
The Oeschinensee is located at 1,578 m above sea level. The time of day and weather have a big influence on the chances of catching a fish. Patience and practice make perfect.
Canadian lake trout and Arctic char are mostly caught from the shore by bottom fishing with a bee maggot or by spin fishing.
Fishing from a boat is also successful. Fishing boats with fish boxes and anchors are available for hire.
Rainbow trout are mainly caught using buldo or cone fishing with bee maggots as bait. Gamba fishing is also permitted. Choosing the right bait is crucial when fishing.
In principle, fishing is permitted with a fishing license for the patented waters in the canton of Bern at Oeschinensee .
You can purchase the fishing license at the café bar on the shore of Lake Oeschinen at the Oeschinensee mountain restaurant. You can also buy the fishing license before your arrival at the tourist office in Kandersteg or online.

After rainfall and strong temperature fluctuations (day/night), the risk of rockfall, wet avalanches, debris flow and rockfall increases. Alarm signs are fresh impact marks, rock deposits and outcrops. The more exposed the path, the higher the risk. In such places, it is important to move on quickly. Hiking is always at your own risk. Many rockfalls are often caused by other hikers, mountaineers or animals. Avoid throwing any stones, as you do not know who is below you in the terrain.
